ZAKAT

As we are in the month of Ramadan, many of us will be gearing up to pay our Zakat. However, did you know that one of the areas you can give your Zakat to is Dawah?

The Qur'an states that amongst the eight categories of people who can receive Zakat are those whose hearts would be inclined to Islam. Allah (swt) mentions in the Qur'an.

"Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [Zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam]...." (9:60)

With this in mind, iERA has set up a Zakat Fund, geared towards supporting the new-Muslims. Supporting new Muslims with your Zakat has many benefits. Reverts are often a neglected group amongst the Muslim community, and supporting them at the crucial stage following their coming to Islam is extremely important.

Not only will you be helping those Muslims who need support at the most critical stage of their development, but by supporting them to become strong believers, they will also become major contributors to their local communities, and in fact will give Zakah and sadaqah to help other less fortunate Muslims.

Your Zakat will go towards the following areas:

New Muslim Retreat

The retreat brings together new reverts to Islam in an environment where they can feel comfortable in their new found faith, amongst fellow believers. At the retreat, named 'The Journey of Life' the new Muslims are empowered and motivated to build a solid foundation of Islam by instilling in them a deep and profound attachment and understanding of the purpose of life and awareness of Allah (SWT).

The retreats have had a profound and lasting impact on the New Muslims. We are seeing some of the new Muslims getting active in the community and contributing.

In December 2010, we held our first ever new Muslim retreat, which was attended by forty new Muslims. The instructors were Abdurraheem Green and Shaykh Abu Abdissalam. In April 2011, we held the second retreat, which was attended by over seventy people.

We will be holding two further retreats in 2011 and 4 in 2012. To achieve this we are aiming to raise £100,000 to cover the costs for 3 retreats.
